Agioi Apostoloi is a peaceful base for exploring central Evia. Within an easy drive of Norte Luxury Villas you can visit harbour towns, ancient sites, mountain villages and even catch a ferry to another island. Here are our favourite day trips.

Kymi and Paralia Kymis

North of us lies Kymi, a traditional town built on a hillside above the sea and famous across Greece for its figs. Stroll through the old town and its mansions, visit the Folklore Museum, then head down to the harbour at Paralia Kymis for fresh fish by the water.

A day on Skyros

From Paralia Kymis, ferries sail to Skyros, one of the Sporades islands, in around two hours. Skyros is known for its whitewashed hilltop town, its castle and its small native horses. Check the ferry timetable in advance, as an out-and-back day trip only works on certain days; many visitors prefer to stay a night.

Lake Dystos and the ancient acropolis

Only a short drive inland, Lake Dystos is a wetland rich in birdlife, overlooked by the ruins of ancient Dystos. It is ideal for a morning walk followed by lunch by the sea.

Eretria

Eretria was one of the most powerful cities of ancient Greece. Today you can visit the archaeological site, with its theatre and the remains of temples and houses, and the Archaeological Museum, then relax at the seafront cafés. Eretria is also where the ferry from Oropos arrives.

Chalkida and the Euripus strait

Evia’s capital sits at the narrowest point between the island and the mainland. Watch the famous currents of the Euripus strait, which change direction several times a day, stroll along the waterfront and enjoy seafood at one of the many restaurants.

Mount Dirfys and Steni

For cooler air and green landscapes, drive to the mountain village of Steni at the foot of Mount Dirfys, the highest mountain in Evia. Walking trails lead into the fir forests, and the village tavernas are known for their grilled meat.

Villages and towers nearby

Closer to home, the villages around Avlonari, Oxylithos and Krieza are full of old churches, stone houses and medieval towers. The Venetian tower of Koutoumoulas is a striking landmark.

Tips for day trips

  • A rental car is essential; public transport between villages is limited.
  • Start early in summer and plan a swim stop on the way back.
  • Download offline maps, as signal can drop in the mountains.

After a day of exploring, there is nothing better than coming home to your own private pool. Both Villas 1 and 4 (up to 5 guests) and Villas 2 and 3 (up to 6 guests) have free parking and an on-site EV charger. Check availability and book direct to save 10%.
