Agioi Apostoloi and neighbouring Petries sit on the east coast of central Evia, facing the open Aegean. Life here is slow and simple: swimming, long lunches and evening walks by the harbour. But if you want to do more than relax by your private pool, there is plenty to discover. Here are our favourite things to do near Norte Luxury Villas.
1. Swim at beaches you will have almost to yourself
Stomio beach, with the little church of St John, is right in front of the villas. Spela is the main village beach, with facilities and calm water on most days, while Cheromylos, Klimaki (with natural shade from tamarisk trees) and other coves are a short drive away. Liani Ammos is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers when the summer wind blows. Read our full guide to the hidden beaches nearby.
2. Get out on the water
The clear water of this coast is ideal for snorkelling, sea kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, especially in the calm early morning. Experienced riders will find good wind for windsurfing and kitesurfing on breezy summer days.
3. Discover Lake Dystos and ancient Dystos
Just inland lies Lake Dystos, a wetland that changes size with the seasons and attracts many species of birds. Above it, on a hill, are the ruins of ancient Dystos, a 4th-century BC town whose walls and towers are still visible. Go early in the morning or before sunset for the best light and birdlife.
4. Explore traditional villages
Drive up to Pano Petries and the hill villages around Krieza, Koskina and Argyro for views over the Aegean. The tall Venetian tower of Koutoumoulas and the remains of old mansions are reminders of Evia’s long and layered history.
5. Hike, cycle or take a jeep safari
Country roads and paths wind through olive groves, hills and valleys. Spring and autumn are perfect for walking and cycling, and 4×4 tours around Lake Dystos are a fun option for families. See our month-by-month guide to choose the best season.
6. Eat like a local
Fresh fish, grilled sardines, octopus and meze at seaside tavernas are one of the highlights of any stay here. Our guide to where to eat in Agioi Apostoloi and Petries has our personal recommendations. Guests also get 10% off breakfast at Cana, our partner right next door.
7. Join a summer festival
In summer, the villages celebrate with traditional festivals (panigyria) and food events with live music, dancing and plenty of local food. Ask us what is on during your stay.
8. Or simply do nothing
Sometimes the best plan is no plan: a swim in your private pool, a book on the terrace and dinner with a view of the sea. Every villa has its own 20 m² pool with hydromassage, sun loungers and a garden.
